What is the BooST program?
A Council-backed way to make your Boroondara home more energy efficient.
BooST is a Boroondara Council program that helps residents upgrade their homes to cleaner, more efficient energy. The program is delivered with HP Energy, so you have one team guiding you from your first question through to installation and aftercare.
Whether you’re thinking about solar panels and a battery, replacing an old gas hot water system with a heat pump, or simply making your home warmer in winter and cooler in summer, BooST helps you work out which upgrades suit your home, compare products side by side, and have the work completed by qualified installers.
Eligible homeowners can receive a subsidy of up to $2,000 towards the cost. Renters can still contact us for advice.
BooST Subsidy and Eligibility
Council checks your address and subsidy history before any subsidy is confirmed.
Subsidy of
Up to $2,000
per eligible household
You may be eligible if:
- You own a home in Boroondara. Renters can still ask for advice.
- You are a first-time BooST participant. Council checks your address and subsidy history.
The subsidy is applied after other rebates. GST and any mandatory co-payment are not covered. Subject to Council eligibility checks and available funding. An enquiry does not reserve funding.
Explore Your Home Energy Upgrade Options
From generating your own power to keeping the heat in, here’s what you can explore through BooST.
Solar panels and batteries
Solar panels turn sunlight into electricity for your home during the day. Adding a battery stores the extra power so you can use it in the evening, reducing how much you draw from the grid.
Batteries for existing solar
Already have solar? A battery lets you keep surplus daytime energy instead of exporting it to the grid. We check your current system and inverter to recommend a compatible option.
Heat pump hot water
A heat pump draws warmth from the surrounding air to heat your water, using far less electricity than a conventional electric system. It’s a popular way to move off gas, and can run on your solar during the day.
Heating and cooling
Efficient reverse-cycle systems heat your home in winter and cool it in summer from a single unit — a practical alternative to gas heaters and older, less efficient air conditioners.
EV charging
A dedicated home charger charges your electric vehicle faster and more safely than a standard power point, and can be set to charge from your solar or during off-peak times.
Induction cooktops
Induction heats your cookware directly for fast, precise cooking. The cooktop surface stays cooler and is easy to clean, and it removes gas combustion from your kitchen.
Insulation
Ceiling, wall and underfloor insulation help keep heat in during winter and out during summer, so your heating and cooling don’t have to work as hard.
Draught proofing
Sealing gaps around doors, windows, vents and floorboards stops warm and cool air escaping. It’s often one of the simplest ways to make a home more comfortable.

Ask about a free home energy assessment
If you’re not sure which upgrade will make the biggest difference, ask us about a separate free home energy assessment. It’s a good starting point for understanding how your home uses energy and where improvements could help most.
Every home is different — the age of the house, how it’s insulated, what appliances you use and when you use them all affect which upgrades make sense.
